Highly recommended.
180 gram vinyl.
The drum beat chugs along, like a train running down the tracks and Billy Zoom's extremely hot guitar solos and John and Exene's distinctive harmonizing, charming as ever, with their witty lyrics and country blues-infused punk.
Yeah, it's more commercial and poppy than their previous albums, but the material's still strong and I really don't think the band strayed too far from their roots. There's a still a sweaty punk energy and they had an old bluesy rock n roll influence from the very beginning that became much more apparent here. Rockabilly without being explicitly rockabilly per se, I guess.
Tons of excellent songs: a great cover of "Breathless", the rollicking "Devil Doll", "The New World", "Hot House", "Make the Music Go Bang"...
