Steely Dan
Description:
Radio broadcast recordings from the reunited Steely Dan's 1993 North American tour are now available. Steely Dan's activities as a live band ended in 1974, and since then they have concentrated on studio recording. This live recording is a precious record of their reappearance to their fans as a band after 20 years. This is a 2-CD FM broadcast recording of a performance at Riverport Amphitheater in St. Louis, Missouri on September 1, 1993, in the middle of the tour. The performance, with members mainly active in the jazz and fusion scene, is truly a perfect Steely Dan performance, and is a must-hear for fans of the band. Steely Dan, which was supposed to have ended up as a recording project, is now back as a live band. The band's revival gained momentum when Walter Becker, Steely Dan's old partner, produced Donald Fagen's second solo album, "Mantis Ad," which led to this reunion tour.Because of this, the band performed not only Steely Dan songs, but also songs from Donald Fagen's two solo albums and even a solo song by Walter Becker, which was still unreleased at the time. Since this is a recording of a performance from the middle of the tour, the performance has become more proficient, thrilling yet spare, and extremely satisfying. The perverse phrasing of guitarist Drew Zing, who was still a near unknown at the time, is also a must-hear.
