Description:
Ballet Music Specialist Fistulari's Rare Symphony Coupling Ukrainian-born conductor Anatole Fistulari's recording of Tchaikovsky's ballets was praised as "the greatest recording ever made" (Gramophone magazine). This newly remastered album is the first release on CD, and follows the previously released coupling of "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker Suite" on Eloquence. The tracks are the ballet "Sleeping Beauty" recorded in Paris in 1952 (monaural) and the Symphony No. 4 from 1971, the fourth stereo recording of the ballet. Fistulari was active in Decca as a concert conductor and ballet director, but his recordings as a symphony conductor are very rare, and this recording of Symphony No. 4 is a valuable record.
