Description:
Toru Takemitsu (October 8, 1930 - February 20, 1996) was one of Japan's leading world-class composers. This year marks the 90th anniversary of his birth. He left behind a wide range of works, from orchestral works to stage music, film music, choral music, and pop songs, and here we present the first box set of his five orchestral works in a series co-produced with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, which gained great popularity in the 1990s. This box set covers his major works from his early masterpiece "Requiem for Strings" to "Spectral Canticle," his last orchestral work. All of these recordings, made in the presence and under the supervision of the composers themselves, have been awarded the "Record Geijutsu (Recorded Arts) Special Selection/Recommendation" and are still of enduring value today. The commentary includes production notes by the composer himself, as well as rare photographs of the recordings.
