Description:

On the occasion of my first CD, Yurina TetsuYurina Schumann's charms first attracted me when I was in college. Until then, I could not grasp the excitement that had nowhere to go, or the music that repeated itself over and over again. However, when I first heard Schumann's Sonata No. 1, I was captivated by its whirlwind of emotions, deep sadness, and wailing. After playing No. 1, I wanted to play No. 3 next. The third movement is full of the intensity and madness of Schumann's love for Clara, which was so violent that his heart was in turmoil and he risked his own destruction. The doomed chords of the 3rd movement and the 4th movement just before the climax (bars 150~ and 312~) make me cry as I play it in the performance. Another piece that brings tears to my eyes as I play it is the Brahms arrangement of the Chaconne. I have always loved the original violin piece and have memories of begging my music high school classmates to play it for me during lunch break. Brahms' arrangement for left hand is very close to the essence of the original, and I am happy to be able to play it myself. The parts that can be read as Brahms' "arrangement" are exactly as in the score, and the parts that I interpreted as misprints by Brahms, I adopted the sound of Bach's original. The chords, which can be played simultaneously on the piano, mimic the harsh, cutting arpeggios of the violin. Furthermore, since the piano cannot change its pitch, in modern times it is generally tuned to the equal temperament, but for this piece, I had it specially fine-tuned so that the chords that appear in the chaconne are close to genuine, based on one of the so-called classical tuning methods.
