The heavy metal/hard rock movement, which expanded as a worldwide music movement in the early 1980s, was revitalized in Scandinavia, which was said to be a barren land for this type of music. In 1983, the band released the album "Europe", which was a hit not only in their home country of Sweden but also in Japan, and they became a new hard rock band. Their mega-hit album "The Final Countdown" was released in 1986, and became their first worldwide release. The album reached No. 8 on the U.S. album charts and became a triple platinum album, and the album's title number, 'The Final Countdown', reached No. 1 in 25 countries.
