Mirella Hagen was born in 1984 in Würzburg, Bavaria, and her beautiful voice is so clear, hard, and wonderful sounding that it can be likened to crystal. While she excels in Baroque and Mozart, her pin-tight voice is also dominant in Romantic music, and she sang Woglinde and Birds of the Forest at the Bayreuth Festival from 2013 to 2015. And she seems to have a strong attachment to Wolff, having sung Wolff in a song competition in Stuttgart in 2012, where she was a finalist. Eight years later, Hagen's performance is well-developed, and while most CD recordings of Lieder tend to feature veterans, it is refreshing to hear a young, fresh-voiced singer singing German Lieder. Baritone Tobias Berndt, born in Berlin in 1979, is also excellent. One listen to his voice and you will recognize him as a singer in the tradition of the great Fischer-Dieskau.
