Description:
Funded by the Nomura Cultural Foundation, Contemporary Japanese Composers Series No. 37 Makoto Shinohara went from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, where he studied with Messiaen. Later in Germany, he studied electronic music from Gottfried Michael Koenig. His reputation has been extremely high since that time, and he is known as an assistant to Stockhausen at the Conservatory of Music in Cologne, as well as an introducer of Stockhausen's works in Japan. Makoto Shinohara's works cover not only instrumental music but also vocal music, tapes, etc., but they all have in common a sophisticated style that pursues new playing techniques, spatialization of sound, visualization, and other methods. Although his rigorous approach has resulted in a small number of works, this CD contains some of his best-known pieces. The "World of Makoto Shinohara," which he arrived at while walking the frontiers of contemporary music, radiates an unparalleled individuality. [Comment courtesy of Fontec.
