The 400th anniversary of William Byrd's death in 2023! A collection of Byrd's keyboard works played on modern piano by Daniel-Ben Pienaar! Born in South Africa, Daniel-Ben Pienaar is a brilliant pianist currently based in London, where he is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) and a professor at the University of London. He is also known for his collaborations with violinist Narimichi Kawabata and trumpeter/producer Jonathan Freeman-Attwood, and has recorded some of the greatest Baroque and classical works by Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert for the Avie label. Pienaar has also demonstrated his extraordinary talent in an elaborate album entitled "The Long Seventeenth Century," which was selected as a special selection by Record Art Review, Gramophone magazine, and BBC Music Magazine (all in the UK). Bird, who set the standard for English keyboard music for generations with his outstanding set of dances and variations, including some of the most popular Elizabethan works of the 16th century. .The collection ranges from well-known pieces such as "First Pavan (MB29)" and "Selinger's Round" to lesser-known gems, and showcases the Steinway's rich colors and textures brought out with astonishing virtuosity.
