Although he had a wide repertoire, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau excelled especially in Schubert's songs, and between 1966 and 1972 he recorded all 408 of Schubert's lieder for male voices (including three song cycles) for Deutsche Grammophon, an unprecedented accomplishment.
