Hollie Cook
Description:
Singer Holly Cook, who has matured into the queen of lovers' rock, completes her first new album in four and a half years. Her fourth album, "Happy Hour," has been released. With Happy Hour, Hollie Cook has matured into the queen of Lovers Rock (a girly harmony reggae style beloved in the UK since the 70's). Hollie's mentor was Ari Up, the band's lead singer and lifelong friend of her parents (Sex Pistols drummer Paul and singer mother Jeni). My father always wanted me to be a singer. But then I discovered Lovers Rock. Listening to it on pirate radio and with friends, I was moved and fascinated, and it was The Slits that allowed me to pursue this career. From an early age, I was surrounded by powerful women, and when my time came, I was never swayed by male dominance. They were my 'wall of courage,'" she recalls. From these roots, Hollie grew. Her soulful and candid words in Happy Hour are accessible and genuine. 'I can't stay away from it. Making music, which I love, makes me look deep inside myself. I get to explore a lot of human truths and feelings that we shouldn't avoid, and I feel liberated by singing about them," she says. (Vivien Goldman)
