Andrew Anderson further developed the tradition of modern and contemporary British choral music in Australia, including Finzi, Howells, and Britten. This album contains his "Lenten Cantata" and other religious choral works. Lent" refers to the 40 days before Easter, a time to prepare the soul for the coming Passion and death of Christ, while observing a period of food and feast abstinence. This cantata, commissioned by the Old Cathedral of St. James and the Consort of Melbourne, was originally written in the form of organ and three-part string accompaniment, and was rewritten in 2020 as orchestral accompaniment. The cantata, with its familiar melody sung over a powerful orchestral sound reminiscent of film music, is sure to be close to the hearts of those living in the modern age. Naxos Japan
