His warm, smiling face and stage name, Smiley, have endeared him to many. His date of birth is July 5, 1920. His birthplace is Union, Louisiana. His real name is Overton Amos Lemon. He moved with his family to New Orleans, where he started by using his guitar skills to earn tips at various bars in the French Quarter.
