Downpour of Blessings, a brilliant Hadith compilation by Khalid Baig is a great service to the English-speaking Muslims. The brilliance of the collection begins with the Hadith Baig chooses to highlight from Ma’arif al-Hadith. The work offers prophetic insights into every realm of Islam: the theological, legal, ethical, and spiritual.  The brilliance of the collection is further displayed in the lucid translation and insightful commentary. The commentary itself, based on classical exegetical insights augmented by contemporary knowledge from myriad sciences, makes the work difficult to put down. This compilation should be in the library of every English-speaking Muslim. It will prove to be a source of great knowledge and guidance for anyone reading it on a regular basis.

Downpour of Blessings fills a lacuna in English hadith literature. It is a must-read for Muslims interested in the rich tradition of hadith commentary. Khalid Baig is to be commended for distilling technical concepts related to hadith in a manner that is both accessible and relatable to all levels of readership.

I am very pleased to see that our respected brother Khalid Baig prepared this beautiful collection. He has rendered a great service to modern Muslims, young and old. Every hadith is presented with its text and an excellent translation. Following that is a short, clear, and thoughtful explanation. Hadiths are presented in their historical context, with useful lessons drawn for our lives. The author critically examines the doubts and objections of the Orientalists, Islamophobes, as well as deniers of Hadith. The book follows, in general, the middle and moderate positions of the Ahl al-Sunnah wa ’l-Jamāʿah.

The book is enjoyable and easy to read and learn, but it is also very profound, educational, and instructive. It will be a welcome addition to our growing Islamic literature in English and hopefully be used by our Islamic schools as well as mosques in weekly or daily Hadith study circles.

In the relatively limited landscape of English hadith collections, largely consisting of highly technical translations that are relatively inaccessible to the average reader, the highly relevant, concise, and yet comprehensive collection of hadith in Khalid Baig’s Downpour of Blessings is a much needed addition to the corpus. Like the Maʿārif Ḥadīth that this collection is based upon, this compendious hadith selection, translation, and commentary warrants a place on every bookshelf in the Muslim, English-speaking world.
