King Lear, one of Shakespeare's "Four Great Tragedies". Believing the sweet words of Goneril and Regan, his two eloquent daughters, he deports Cordilia, his youngest daughter, who tells the truth. As a result, King Lear is betrayed by the sisters he trusted and loses his youngest daughter as well. Because of the horrific ending, the play was performed with a happy ending from the 17th century to the early 19th century, but since the late 19th century, it has been customary to perform the play as it was originally written.
