It may seem surprising, but Svetlanov loved French music and was good at it. Chausson was his first repertoire, shortly before his death. This is Svetlanov's last performance with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. They played this piece for almost 40 minutes. Wagner's influence is still at the forefront, and the pointillistic detail is typical of his later years, full of terrifying beauty. Frank was still in good health when he performed this piece, and you can enjoy his dynamic orchestral drive. The carefulness with which he sings is nothing short of Svetlanov's. Tobu Land System
