Description:
The "All-Star Orchestra" is a project in which selected players from more than 30 American orchestras perform a wide variety of music under Gerard Schwarz. The orchestra is known for its flawless performances of everything from classic, well-known pieces to world premieres of new works by American composers. Their concert "Summit" is held once a year in the Grand Ballroom of Manhattan Center in New York City, where they are filmed in high-vision using 19 cameras, and is documented as a symphonic experience of the 21st century. Program 5 explores the relationship between Robert Schumann and Brahms through the presence of Schumann's wife, Clara. Clara was not only an excellent pianist herself, but also a strong inspiration to both her husband and her young friend, resulting in a number of outstanding works. Program 6 depicts the process of the birth of the "concerto" in the modern era. It includes interviews with three American composers and an outstanding young soloist.
