John Abercrombie, one of ECM's leading jazz guitarists, has become a legendary artist in both name and reality, having released more than 30 albums in a variety of styles. The trio's original performances, which went beyond the realm of jazz-rock, attracted a great deal of attention. He continued to work energetically in various groups and solo careers, but in 2017 he passed away due to heart failure. The album features songs from Gateway's albums as well as solo albums by each member, and also features Jack DiJohnette's piano playing.
