Marie Therese de Savoie

Marie Therese de Savoie, born in 1756, was a French married princess and Countess of Artois. As a foreign-born member of the royal house, she was not especially popular at court, where marriages to foreign princesses were often met with suspicion and criticism.

She left France with her husband at the outbreak of the French Revolution. Her life and position reflect the tensions of the late 18th-century French court, where dynastic marriage, politics, and public perception were closely intertwined.
