These classic one-piece molded glass buttons feature integrated self-shanks and a smooth flat face with deep shine, typical of Bohemian "French Jet" styles created to imitate costly real jet during the widespread mourning fashions of the era.

Most likely crafted in Bohemia (Czech region), renowned for Victorian black glass production. Wonderful large matched set in excellent antique condition— overall uniformity, shiny, with only minimal age wear.

During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, high-button boots were a fashion staple for women, men, and children, often featuring tiny buttons along the side for closure (fastened with a buttonhook).

Black glass buttons, molded in glossy "French Jet" style from Bohemia, served as an affordable imitation of expensive real jet (a fossilized wood gemstone popular for mourning wear after Queen Victoria's influence).
