This is weaving artistry at its finest. Our Borneo hats are made on the Borneo Island in the Kalimantan region of Indonesia. Only a few people have the impressive ability to weave these mesmerizingly beautiful hats and we are proud to be in the few. 

First our artisans gather the finest Indonesian rattan available. The rattan is then stripped and cut into long, thin strands, an extensive labor of love. The strands are then dried in the sun, some are dyed in mud to create the dark contrasting pattern that is indigenous to Borneo. The entire process takes 4-6 months depending on availability of raw materials and state of the weather. This cognac color takes an additional 2 months as it is mud dyed and sun dried to achieve its rich brown color.

This hat is lightweight without being too floppy; it has an attractive rigidity that pronounces its beauty and makes it easy to style. As with all our hats, it rolls up for travel and comes with a woven carrying strap. The bonus? When you are not wearing it, it makes for the most beautiful wall art in your home or office.
