Fish oil supplies the essential omega-3 fatty acids EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid). Also known as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), EPA and DHA play crucial roles in cardiovascular health as well as optimal neurological and eye development. Both have been studied extensively in large patient populations and have been found to have beneficial effects on heart and brain function, as well as supporting already normal blood lipid levels. Coenzyme Q10, also known as ubiquinone, is a vitamin-like substance produced by the body to support the body’s production of energy in the mitochondria. Numerous studies show that it can support normal cardiovascular structure and function. It also can act as an antioxidant, supporting the body’s normal neutralization of free radical molecules. Since it is a fat-soluble nutrient, coenzyme Q10 can be limited in its usefulness by poor absorption by the body.
