I am not a connoisseur of antique pantry boxes, though there are many I find very beautiful (and indeed most often the ones fetching many hundreds of dollars.) Occasionally one strikes me as meant for me, though, as this one did, found in New Hampshire last week. Perfect size, perfect oval shape, gracefully tapering opposing finger laps, one on the lid and one on the body, squared off at the points. Most of all I love the patina, with just remnants of early milk paint holding on, looking like a bluish gray to me--on the body of the box and on the lip of the lid, but pretty much worn of the flat of the lid entirely. With greening around heads of the nails--two round one, securing the ends of the laps, and one square, at the start of the lap on the lid. Photos give a pretty good sense, though more nuance to the color in hand.

5 3/8" w x 4" d x 2" t. Good antique condition, sound, stable, and pretty sturdy. One small area of loss to the wood on the bottom underside, at edge, documented in photos from every angle. Some staining to interior as pictured and one area of minor splitting to the interior wall, also as detailed in photos.
