A rare Indian koftgari inkwell crafted from iron, with original integrated candleholder above. Likely mid 19th century.

The spherical ink chamber is finely decorated in traditional koftgari technique, with floral and foliate motifs in silver overlay, now gently worn with age. It's suspended between three arched legs and flanked by a stylised, toothed bracket that gives the form a sculptural, almost creature-like silhouette.

An evocative object, both utilitarian and ornate.

Designed to hold a candle on the top, quills in the middle and ink in the vessel.

Good antique condition. Patina and oxidation consistent with age. Hinged chamber opens; structure is stable.
