My life as a bee tells the story of bees over the course of a year, from spring to spring. A simple text, showing the different stages of nectar gathering and honey making, but with the cadence of a song of vibrant phrases, reflecting the hectic and incessant rhythm of the hive's activity. Isabelle Arsenault's illustrations, a combination of ink, gouache, graphite and colored pencil, are energetic and joyful. They alternate landscapes -represented in an impressionistic manner- with cartoon-style drawings -of bees with big eyes and smiling faces, but with a sharp nose reminiscent of the sting they hide in their abdomen-. A work that allows readers to follow the erratic flight of the bees among the flowers, and to enter, as guests of honor, into the hive, the small honey factory.
