Apophyllite refers to a group of phyllosilicates, which is a class of minerals. Apophyllites come in a variety of colours, but white and clear are the most common. It was "discovered" in 1806 and named after a greek word that describes something "flaking off". This is due to the crystal's tendency to crumble when heated up.
