In addition to the stretch material, reinforced patches have been added at the knees to increase resistance to abrasion (meaning that when you hit ground, you'll have some protection). The pants' cut has been specially designed to fit perfectly with the body's contours when the pilot is in a riding position, and it is designed to allow for easy placement of protective gear underneath. 

To ensure constant ventilation, the SI2 is equipped with laser-cut vents on the inside of the thighs and features highly breathable fabric on the back of the legs. So these things should be good in the Aussie summer.
