A Folk Story from Bhutan teaching cooperation between unlike species, with emphasis on caring and sharing. The Elephant, the Monkey, the Rabbit and the Peacock became friends after cooperating to grow their favourite fruit tree.
A friend in need, is a friend indeed.
The peacock found a seed and planted it, the rabbit watered the seed, the monkey fertilized the seed and the elephant guarded the seed. The seed grew into a plant, then into a tree. The tree grew into a very big pear tree. When the fruit was ripe it was so high they could not reach the fruit. The animal friends made a tower according to size and strength and plucked the fruit from the branches.
By cooperating and uniting the friends were able to gather food that was otherwise beyond their reach.
