Freemark Abbey was one of the wineries represented in the historic Judgment of Paris blind tasting in 1976 (with their 1969 Cabernet Sauvignon being listed among the entries).
The Freemark Abbey 2021 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon shows the depth and polish that define this historic estate. Deep garnet in color, it opens with aromas of dark chocolate, pomegranate, cedar, blackberry, and a hint of leather. The palate follows with layers of blueberry compote, black cherry, espresso, and cigar box, framed by bright fruit and finely knit tannins. Composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Petit Verdot and Merlot, the wine was aged 24 months in French oak, 41% new. Bold yet graceful, it’s approachable now but structured for 15+ years of evolution in the cellar.
94 points, James Suckling.
