John Kinder (1819-1903) was an important early Anglican Priest, artist and photographer Born in England, he moved to New Zealand in 1855 and became a teacher at the Church of England Grammar School in Auckland. His artwork and photography of early New Zealand is well regarded and he is best known for his early watercolours and his photograph of Wiremu Tamihana - "The Kingmaker"
