Raw and rugged Calcite has formed sharp teeth-like scalenohedral clusters with a reddish-brown hue caused by iron oxides in between the generations of Calcite growth.

The Santa Eulalia mining district has been in nearly continuous production for over three centuries and is one of Mexico's chief silver, lead, and zinc deposits. The region sits along a large belt of Carbonate Replacement Deposits that underwent stages of mineralization and oxidation which produces a large number of pseudomorphs and mineralogical overprinting. The latter of which gives these Chocolate Calcite specimens their lustrous outer layer of Calcite and rich brown internal structure full of Hematite
