A rounded to mound-forming, thorny, deciduous shrub with red stems bearing small, rounded to ovate, yellow-green leaves turning red and orange in autumn, and racemes of insignificant, creamy-white flowers in spring followed by bright red fruit. Best grown in sun or partial shade in a moist yet well drained position.

• When planting this shrub in the open ground it is best planted with a mixture of your garden soil and a good quality Tree and Shrub Compost. If suitable for containers then we recommend John Innes No3 Compost or a good quality Multipurpose compost. These plants should be fed in Spring and late Summer with a good quality granular fertiliser.
