Our Argento Bassoon Reed is a professional-tier UK-made bassoon reed cut slightly shorter than our Alaw, which focuses the response into the low and middle registers. Hand-finished by a professional bassoonist for the player who works heavily in 2nd bassoon, low solo passages, and the lower end of orchestral writing.
A shorter blade gives a reed that anchors the bass line cleanly. The Argento speaks easily in the low and middle registers, with the kind of dark, focused, present voice you want when you're playing under the rest of the section or carrying a sustained pedal. It still plays the upper register, but it earns its keep in the territory where many longer reeds get woolly or thin.
Each Argento is hand-made in the UK, end to end. Cane is selected, gouged, shaped, profiled, and tied here, then scraped and finished by a professional bassoonist. The reed is wrapped in a dark blue binding, easy to spot in the case alongside the rest of your stock. Each reed is tested before it leaves the bench.
The shorter, low-register-focused sibling of our Alaw Bassoon Reed, our standard professional-tier UK-made reed. For another professional UK option with a different house style, see our Marsden Bassoon Reeds. Or browse the full bassoon reed range.
