In this abstract composition a central grey-blue triangle is laden with other shapes at each of its points. The shapes which appear suspended in a carefree combination are predominantly cream, brown, or black, with brighter shapes in yellow, blue, pink and green drawing our attention. The ‘tumbling’ effect in the organisation of shapes add a sense of movement to the piece. Malevich’s aim in abstraction, as he explained in his 1927 publication ‘The Non-Objective World’ was to “free art from the dead weight of the real world”, rejecting real-life forms, and to take “refuge in the form of the square”.
