In Africa, these beads are known as "Chachasaw". The term "Millefiori" means "a thousand flowers" in Italian. Following the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market, Venetian glassmakers created Millefiori glass as a countermeasure. These decorative glass beads, known for their colorful designs, were crafted into tube-shaped beads by traders and transported to Africa as trade beads.
