The 13th Floor Elevators were a US rock-band formed by guitarist/vocalist Rocky Erickson, electric jug-player Tommy Hall & guitarist Stacy Sutherland in 1965. Their career was short, ending in 1969 after some four albums & seven single-releases for their recording-label International Artists. They are cited as being one of the first ever psychedelic bands. It is rumored that Erickson himself coined the term psychedelic rock. The influence of this band has been acknowledged by 1960s musicians such as Billy Gibbons, Peter Albin & Chris Gerniottis. Their debut single You’re Gonna Miss Me featured on the seminal 1972 compilation Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965-1968. The compilation is considered pivotal to the development of the Garage & Punk-rock genres. Their influence can be heard today in the music of contemporary acts such as Primal Scream & Spacemen 3.
