The technique for Chevron beads was invented in the late 1400s by Maria Barovier on the island of Murano, Italy. While Venetian bead-making techniques are adaptations of ancient methods, the Chevron technique is unique to Venice. Chevron beads have been discovered with up to 10 layers, and while blue is the most common color, red, green, and black are rare and highly sought after. The name "Chevron" means zigzag, and these beads are also known as Star Beads or Rosetta Beads. The technique later spread to the Netherlands.
