Psyllium Husk Powder for Horses

Psyllium seed husk powder is suitable for sand removal from the horse's gut. In addition, psyllium seed husk powder adds abundant soluble fibre to the diet and is used especially when the overall diet is also considered from the perspective of gut function and digestion.

Very high-quality powder made from psyllium husk. The husk powder forms a gel mass that softens the intestinal contents and helps remove sand from the horse's gut.

Suitable for both horses that eat sand and horses in which sand accumulates in the gut. The high fibre content supports the horse's normal digestion.

Dosage:

10 g / 100 kg of horse's body weight. Larger doses according to veterinary instructions.

Mix 40–50 g of powder into 2 litres of water. Mix until smooth and offer to the horse as is or mixed into the regular feed.

• adult horses: 40–50 g powder/day – in 2 litres of water.
• ponies and small breeds: 30 g powder/day – in 1,5 litres of water.
• foals: 25 g powder/day – in 1 litre of water.

During a psyllium course, ensure adequate water intake for the horse and monitor the horse's condition.

1 dl weighs approximately 40 g.

The daily dose can be divided into two portions.

Max dosage 150 g/day!

Recommended to be used in 5–7 day periods, not for continuous use. The course can be repeated once a month, with 3-week breaks.

With continuous use, the gut microbes adapt to digesting psyllium and its effectiveness in sand removal decreases.

This product swells significantly, absorbing approximately 40 times its own weight in water.

Tip:

During breaks, use a small amount (1 dl) of chia, which helps continuously move small amounts of sand out, preventing the sand from compacting into a dense, thick layer in the gut.

You can test the sand situation in the gut by placing horse manure into, for example, a rubber glove and leaving it overnight. If sand settles to the bottom of the glove, it is advisable to continue the course. The only way to be certain about the sand situation is to take an X-ray of the horse's abdomen.

When using psyllium products on your own (without a veterinary prescription), always follow the instructions on the package. Do not exceed the dosage without veterinary guidance!
